Hey WakeCrew,
Why You Should Watch Your Own VODs?
One of the fastest ways to improve your LIVE…
Is to watch it.
We know. It feels a little weird at first.
But the truth is:
Most creators never watch their own VODs.
Which means they never notice the things that are hurting their LIVE.
And small issues add up fast.
Why watching your VOD matters
When you’re live, you’re focused on:
• Your game
• Your chat
• Your next move
• Your energy
You don’t notice everything your viewers experience.
But when you watch your VOD like a viewer would, you start seeing things clearly.
Things like:
• Alerts that are way too loud
• Teammates’ voice chat drowning you out
• Background music that’s too faint (or too strong)
• Dead moments where nothing is happening
• A camera angle that doesn’t look as good as you thought
• Text or overlays covering something important
These things seem small…
But they can quietly hurt watch time and retention.
Watch your LIVE like a viewer
When you watch your VOD, pretend you’re someone discovering your LIVE for the first time.
Ask yourself:
• Would I understand what’s happening right away?
• Does the audio feel balanced?
• Is the energy consistent?
• Does the screen feel clean or cluttered?
Sometimes the problem isn’t the content.
It’s just presentation. And presentation is easy to fix.
The biggest thing to check: Audio
Audio issues are one of the most common problems on LIVE.
Things to listen for:
• Alerts too loud compared to your voice
• Teammates’ voice chat louder than you
• Music overpowering the conversation
• Your mic sounding too quiet or distant
A good rule:
Your voice should always be the clearest thing on the LIVE.
Everything else supports it.
How to fix things quickly
You don’t need a full production overhaul. Small adjustments make a huge difference.
Try this:
• Lower alerts slightly if they interrupt conversations
• Balance game audio so it doesn’t compete with your voice
• Adjust Discord / voice chat levels
• Clean up overlays that block the screen
• Tighten camera framing if needed
Fix one or two things at a time.
Your LIVE will slowly start feeling more polished and easier to watch.
Think of it like this
Your LIVE is a show.
Watching your VOD is rehearsal review.
Athletes watch game footage.
Actors watch recordings.
Creators should too.
Tiny challenge for this week
After your next LIVE: Watch 10 minutes of your VOD.
Preferably:
• The first 5 minutes
• A random moment in the middle
• The end of your LIVE
Write down 3 things you could improve.
Fix just one of them before your next LIVE.
Do that every week…
And your LIVE will keep getting better.
Small habit. Big impact.
This is exactly the kind of small system that compounds over time. You don’t need to do everything, you just need to stack the right few things consistently.
We’ll keep breaking those down with you.
If you try this this week, hit reply and tell us if you saw a difference. We actually read them.
Much love,
Max & Mel ⚡
